| 1 orange | 1/2 c sugar |
| 1 lemon | 1 gallon apple cider |
| 1-1/2 t whole cloves | 2 c orange juice |
| 3 (3-in) sticks cinnamon | 1 c lemon juice |
| Peel orange and lemon, being careful to keep rinds intact; insert cloves in each rind strip. Combine rinds, cinnamon sticks, sugar and apple cider in a large Dutch oven; bring to a boil. Cover, reduce heat, and simmer 10 minutes. Remove and discard rind strips and cinnamon sticks. Add orange and lemon juices to mixture, and cook wassail until thoroughly heated. Yield: about 5 quarts. | |
